Discover the perfect blend of natural beauty and urban convenience at Painters Island Caravan Park (also known as Wangaratta Caravan Park). Set on 20 picturesque acres on the banks of the mighty Ovens River, this park offers a tranquil oasis just a short walk from Wangaratta’s vibrant city centre. A convenient footbridge connects the park directly to the CBD, putting a fantastic array of shops, supermarkets, alfresco cafes, and restaurants within easy reach. This unique location makes it the ideal base for exploring Victoria’s High Country, the Milawa Gourmet Region, and the rich bushranger history of Ned Kelly country.
The park is a haven for active travellers, with direct access to some of the region’s best outdoor attractions. The famous Murray to Mountains Rail Trail runs alongside the park, offering over 100 kilometres of sealed, off-road cycling trails. The beautiful Bullawah Cultural Trail also follows the riverbank, providing a fascinating insight into the local Pangerang people’s history. Anglers will love casting a line into the Ovens River, which is well-known for its fishing.
Accommodation and facilities cater to every type of traveller. The park features 140 powered sites and 40 unpowered sites, including convenient drive-through options, set on spacious grassy areas.
