Mulberry Beach (Tocumwal Regional Park)

Mulberry Beach is a fantastic free camping area located on the Victorian banks of the Murray River, directly opposite the historic township of Tocumwal. Situated within the Tocumwal Regional Park, this site offers the perfect blend of bush camping tranquility and town convenience. It is often grouped with the adjacent “Pebbly Beach” and “Finley Beach,” creating a long stretch of accessible riverfront camping that is highly popular with caravans, families, and anglers.

The camping area is set amongst a majestic stand of River Red Gums, providing ample shade and shelter. The site features a gentle sandy beach that slopes into the river, making it an excellent spot for swimming, launching a kayak, or simply pulling up a chair to watch the paddle steamers go by. The proximity to the bridge means you have unique views of the crossing and easy access to the NSW side of the river. Sites are dispersed and unallocated, allowing you to find a spot that suits your setup, whether you want to be right on the water or tucked back in the trees.

While primarily a bush camp, Mulberry Beach offers more convenience than most remote sites. There is a drop toilet located nearby (shared with Finley Beach), which is a rare luxury for free camping in this region. However, there is no drinking water or power available, so self-sufficiency is still required. Access is via unsealed tracks through the Regional Park which are generally well-maintained and suitable for 2WD vehicles and caravans in dry weather, though they can become slippery after rain.

The real drawcard of Mulberry Beach is its location. You are literally minutes away from the pubs, cafes, and shops of Tocumwal. You can enjoy a morning coffee in town, spend the day fishing or swimming at your campsite, and then head back across the bridge for a pub meal in the evening. For those seeking a free, pet-friendly, and accessible river camp with the luxury of a town nearby, Mulberry Beach is hard to beat.
