Mowarry Campground – Hike-in Camping Light to Light Walk NSW – Beowa National Park

Discover one of the most secluded and beautiful coastal campsites in New South Wales at Mowarry Campground, a dedicated hike-in site within the stunning Beowa National Park. Perfectly positioned at the idyllic Mowarry Beach, this campground is a key stop along the renowned 30km Light to Light Walk, offering a pristine and isolated experience for self-sufficient hikers.

It is crucial to understand that **Mowarry Campground is not accessible by car**. Access is exclusively for walkers on the Light to Light Walk (located roughly midway) or for paddlers arriving by kayak or small boat from the sea. This is not a site for caravans, camper trailers, or casual car camping. This isolation is its greatest appeal, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere and an unspoiled natural environment.

The campground itself is basic, designed to blend into the coastal bushland just behind the beach. It features six clearly marked, unpowered tent sites, communal picnic tables, and non-flush pit toilets. As a remote national park site, visitors must be entirely self-sufficient. There is **no potable (drinking) water** available; you must carry in all your water or be prepared to treat water from nearby creeks. Furthermore, there are **no rubbish bins**, meaning all waste must be packed up and hiked back out with you under a strict “leave no trace” policy.

Bookings are essential and must be made online via the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) website. Due to the limited number of sites (6 total), booking well in advance is vital, especially during peak hiking seasons (spring and autumn).

Activities at Mowarry are centred on the landscape. Enjoy a refreshing (though often cold) swim, explore the rock pools on the beach, or cast a line for some excellent beach and rock fishing (NSW recreational fishing licence required). During the whale migration season (May-July and Sep-Nov), the headlands offer a spectacular, uninterrupted vantage point. Due to its status as a protected area within a national park, **no pets, open fires (solid fuel), or generators are permitted** at any time. Only portable fuel stoves are allowed for cooking.
