Escape to the tranquil waters of Mountaineer Inlet, a dedicated boat camp that offers a premium waterside experience within the beautiful Lake Eildon National Park. This picturesque campsite is a haven for boaties, kayakers, and fishing enthusiasts who want to leave the mainland behind and immerse themselves in the serene rhythms of the lake. Accessible only by water, Mountaineer Inlet provides a wonderful sense of seclusion and adventure, allowing you to set up camp in a stunning natural environment with the convenience of having your boat moored just metres away.
The campground is set within a sheltered inlet, providing protection from the wind and a safe anchorage for boats. The grassy, gently sloping banks are perfect for pitching a tent and provide easy access for swimming in the cool, clear water. The location is ideal for a host of recreational activities. Anglers can target prized local species like Murray cod, golden perch, and trout, while those with a passion for water sports will find the open waters of the main lake arm just a short boat ride away. For a more peaceful pursuit, exploring the quiet coves and rugged shoreline of the inlet by kayak or paddleboard is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon.
As a designated Parks Victoria site, self-sufficiency is a must for any stay at Mountaineer Inlet. The campground features a basic non-flush toilet, but all other supplies, including drinking water and firewood, must be brought with you. A strict ‘leave no trace’ policy ensures the area remains pristine for future visitors, so all rubbish must be packed out.
