Legume Rest Area – Legume

The Legume Rest Area is a peaceful and simple free 24-hour camp, offering a convenient stopover for travellers on the scenic Mount Lindesay Road in northern New South Wales. Located in the small, quiet village of Legume, this rest area provides a basic but welcome reprieve for those exploring the spectacular high country of the Great Dividing Range, right near the Queensland border. The site is a level, grassy area adjacent to the public hall, offering a reasonable amount of space for self-contained caravans and motorhomes. This is a classic, no-frills bush camp, and while there is a public toilet, travellers should be prepared to be largely self-sufficient, especially regarding water and power. Its main appeal is the quiet, rural setting, away from the noise and rush of the major highways. It’s a chance to experience a slice of life in a small Australian country town. The nearby Legume Store & Pub offers a touch of local hospitality with a cold drink and a meal. The rest area’s location makes it a great launching point for exploring the surrounding natural attractions, including the rugged Koreelah National Park and the stunning waterfalls and rainforest walks near Killarney on the Queensland side of the border. For a simple, quiet, and no-cost overnight stop in a beautiful part of the country, the Legume Rest Area is an excellent choice for the self-reliant traveller.
