Horizons Kangaroo Sanctuary – Unique Camping in Agnes Water

Prepare for a camping experience unlike any other at Horizons Kangaroo Sanctuary, a truly special retreat located in the heart of Agnes Water. This is not just a campground; it’s a protected haven where a large, friendly mob of Eastern Grey Kangaroos roams freely among the campsites. Waking up to find these gentle marsupials peacefully grazing just metres from your tent or caravan is a magical and quintessentially Australian experience that few places can offer. The sanctuary provides a peaceful, back-to-nature atmosphere, deliberately avoiding the bells and whistles of a commercial park to focus on the unique interaction between guests and the resident wildlife. It’s a place for quiet observation, photography, and forming a profound connection with the natural world.

The campground itself offers spacious, unpowered sites set within a serene bushland environment. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, providing the essentials for a comfortable stay without detracting from the natural setting. The focus here is on tranquility, making it an ideal choice for couples, families with older children, and nature lovers who appreciate a quiet environment. Due to its status as a sanctuary, there is a strict no-pets policy to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the kangaroos. While the sanctuary feels like a secluded world of its own, it is conveniently located just minutes from the main beaches, shops, and attractions of Agnes Water and the Town of 1770. You can spend your days surfing, swimming, or exploring the stunning coastline, and return in the afternoons to relax and watch the kangaroos as they emerge to graze at dusk. Horizons Kangaroo Sanctuary offers a rare and unforgettable opportunity to camp within nature, not just beside it.
