Eromanga Free Campground – Eromanga
The Eromanga Free Campground provides a valuable and welcoming rest stop for travellers venturing into the heart of Queensland’s Channel Country. Located conveniently within the town, this campground is a gesture of hospitality from a community proud of its unique heritage as Australia’s furthest town from the sea and a significant palaeontology hub. The campground itself is a basic, no-frills affair, offering a level, open area of gravel and dirt perfect for self-contained caravans, motorhomes, and campervans. While facilities are minimal, the town provides access to public toilets and potable water, ensuring essential needs are met. This spot is less about resort-style amenities and more about providing a safe, convenient base from which to explore the region. Its prime attraction is the proximity to the world-renowned Eromanga Natural History Museum, home to ‘Cooper’, one of the world’s largest dinosaurs. Campers can easily spend a day at the museum before retiring to their van, just a short distance away. The campground’s location also means the local pub and general store are within easy walking distance. It’s an ideal overnight or 48-hour stop for those on the long journey through the outback, offering a chance to rest, resupply, and discover the incredible prehistoric history of the area.
