Burdekin Duck Roadhouse – Campground Breddan

The Burdekin Duck Roadhouse and Campground, fondly known as the ‘Breddan Pub’, is a classic outback stopover located on the Flinders Highway in Breddan, just a short drive from Charters Towers in Queensland. This iconic roadhouse offers a welcome respite for travellers, providing essential services like fuel and delicious home-style meals, along with a friendly, low-cost campground. It’s an ideal spot for those looking for a convenient and safe place to rest for the night without venturing far from the main route. The campground is situated behind the roadhouse, offering a spacious, flat, and grassy area suitable for all types of vehicles, from big rigs and caravans to campervans and tents. Both powered and unpowered sites are available at very reasonable prices, making it a popular choice for budget-conscious travellers. The atmosphere is relaxed and social, reflecting the welcoming nature of the establishment. The facilities, while basic, are well-maintained and include toilets and coin-operated hot showers, providing the necessary comforts after a long day on the road. The roadhouse itself is the heart of the operation, famous for its cold beer, hearty food, and quirky decor, including its namesake ‘duck’ theme. It’s a great place to chat with fellow travellers and locals alike. Given its position on a major highway and its role as a service hub, it’s a practical stop for refueling both your vehicle and yourself. The proximity to Macrossan Park also makes it a good alternative if the free camp is full or if you require power and shower facilities. For sightseeing and major supplies, the historic and service-rich town of Charters Towers is less than a 30-minute drive away.
