Bridgewater Recreation Reserve – Premier Low-Cost Camping on the Loddon River

Located in the heart of town on the picturesque banks of the Loddon River, the Bridgewater Recreation Reserve is one of Central Victoria’s most beloved and popular destinations for campers and water sports enthusiasts. This expansive, grassy reserve offers an unbeatable location for a low-cost getaway, allowing travellers to set up their caravan, motorhome, or tent just metres from the water. It’s particularly famous during the warmer months when the river comes alive with water skiers, kayakers, and swimmers, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere. The reserve’s large, open spaces provide plenty of room for all types of setups, and its direct access to the town’s amenities makes it an incredibly convenient and comfortable base for exploring the region.

The facilities at the reserve are excellent for a low-cost camp, including access to a toilet block and a public dump point, catering well to the needs of self-sufficient travellers. The main drawcard is undoubtedly the Loddon River itself. You can launch a boat from the nearby ramp, cast a line for Murray Cod and Yellowbelly right from your campsite, or take a leisurely stroll along the scenic riverside walking track. The town of Bridgewater is right on your doorstep, famous for the Bridgewater Bakery and the historic Bridgewater Hotel. Beyond the town, the reserve is on the fringe of the renowned Bendigo and Heathcote wine regions, making it a perfect spot for those looking to indulge in some cellar door tastings. Combining prime waterfront access, great local amenities, and a lively holiday atmosphere, the Bridgewater Recreation Reserve offers exceptional value and a memorable Australian camping experience.
