BNT Larazini Spur Camp Site, Victorian High Country

For the hardened 4WD enthusiast and the dedicated long-distance trekker, the BNT Larazini Spur Camp Site is less a destination and more a hard-won waypoint on an epic journey. Located on the formidable Lazarini Spur Track near Gaffneys Creek, this is one of the most remote and basic campsites in the Victorian High Country. As its name suggests, the site is an informal stop along the iconic Bicentennial National Trail (BNT), offering a simple clearing for adventurers to rest. Access is strictly for high-clearance 4WD vehicles driven by experienced operators; the track is known for its extremely steep sections, climbing over 800 metres in elevation from the Goulburn River. This is not a place for casual weekend campers or those towing trailers. It’s a rugged, undeveloped site for those who are completely self-reliant and seeking the ultimate High Country challenge. The campsite itself is little more than a small, cleared area in the dense mountain forest, providing a flat enough space to pitch a tent or swag. There are absolutely no facilities—no toilets, no water, no picnic tables, and no rubbish disposal. Visitors must be prepared to handle all their needs, including carrying in all water for drinking and cooking, packing a portable toilet, and adhering to a strict leave-no-trace principle by carrying out every piece of rubbish. The reward for this level of effort is unparalleled solitude and a profound sense of immersion in the wilderness. The surrounding area, near landmarks like Mount Skene and Mount Shillinglaw, offers breathtaking views and the satisfaction of conquering some of Victoria’s most challenging terrain. This campsite is exclusively for those who measure a trip’s success by the difficulty of the journey and the remoteness of the destination.
