Betts Beach (Echuca Regional Park)

Betts Beach offers a classic Murray River camping experience just minutes from the bustling tourist hub of Echuca. Located within the Echuca Regional Park, this dispersed bush camping area is situated on a picturesque bend of the river, flanked by towering River Red Gums and sandy banks. It is a favourite spot for those who prefer a slightly quieter atmosphere than the larger Christies Beach nearby, while still enjoying excellent access to the water for swimming, fishing, and boating.

The camping area features numerous unallocated sites scattered throughout the forest and along the high riverbank. Whether you are towing a caravan, setting up a camper trailer, or pitching a tent, there is plenty of space to find your own slice of riverfront paradise. The ground is a mix of compacted earth and leaf litter, providing a solid base for camp. The shade from the gum trees is a welcome relief during the hot Echuca summers, making it a perfect spot to relax with a cold drink and watch the paddle steamers drift by.

As a free bush camping site managed by Parks Victoria, Betts Beach has no facilities. Unlike the nearby Christies Beach, there are no toilets here. Visitors must be completely self-sufficient, bringing their own portable toilet, shower, water, and power. This requirement helps to keep the site cleaner and less crowded. Access is via Simmie Road, which turns into unsealed forest tracks. These are generally accessible by 2WD vehicles in dry weather but can become slippery and boggy after rain, so checking conditions is essential.

Despite its bush setting, Betts Beach is incredibly convenient. You are less than a 15-minute drive from the historic Port of Echuca, where you can explore the wharf, enjoy a meal at a top-rated restaurant, or visit the local wineries. For those who love to travel with their four-legged friends, Betts Beach is dog-friendly (on a lead), making it a fantastic option for the whole family. Whether you’re here for the water sports, the fishing, or just the serenity, Betts Beach is a top-tier camping destination.
