Alroy Camping Grounds – Yowah

Alroy Camping Grounds offers a quintessential Australian outback station stay, perfect for those seeking to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in the rugged beauty of Queensland’s opal country. Located between Eulo and the famous opal-mining town of Yowah, this is a primitive bush camp that rewards the self-sufficient traveller with unparalleled peace, solitude, and stunning natural scenery. The campground is essentially a large, open dirt and scrub area on a working station, providing ample space to find your own private spot. There are no marked sites and no facilities, meaning campers must bring everything they need, including water, power, and toilet facilities, and be prepared to take all their rubbish with them. This ‘leave no trace’ ethos preserves the pristine environment. The main drawcard for many visitors is the proximity to the Yowah opal fields, making it a convenient and affordable base for fossickers hoping to strike it lucky. Even for those not searching for gems, the area offers a fantastic opportunity for birdwatching, bushwalking, and experiencing spectacular outback sunrises and sunsets. The night skies, free from any light pollution, are simply breathtaking. This is not a place for luxury, but for genuine adventure and a chance to disconnect.
