AAOK Moondarra Caravan Park – Mount Isa’s Peaceful Lakeside Retreat

For travellers looking to experience the wilder side of Mount Isa, the AAOK Moondarra Caravan Park offers a unique and tranquil escape. Perfectly positioned a short distance from the city centre and on the road to the magnificent Lake Moondarra, this park is a haven for fishing enthusiasts, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a peaceful outback setting. Unlike the more central parks, its location provides a genuine bush atmosphere, where you can relax amidst the rugged scenery and enjoy the region’s prolific birdlife. It’s the closest commercial accommodation to Lake Moondarra, making it the undisputed best base for those planning to spend their days on the water chasing the lake’s legendary barramundi.

The park itself provides a classic, friendly outback welcome, with spacious sites that cater to a variety of setups, from simple tents to large caravans. After a successful day of fishing or exploring the scenic surrounds of the lake, the park’s swimming pool is the ideal spot to cool off and relax. While you enjoy the serenity of a bush camp, you are still only a few minutes’ drive from all the world-class attractions of Mount Isa. You can easily visit the Hard Times Mine, explore the Riversleigh Fossil Centre, or take in the panoramic views from the city lookout before retreating to your peaceful basecamp. For those who prefer the call of the wild over the city’s hum and want prime access to one of the outback’s best recreational lakes, AAOK Moondarra Caravan Park is the perfect choice.
